My recent employment at Hot Topic and it's relation to punk rock and my views on anti-capitalism.
I'm hearing a lot of shit about this and so I'm writing this to give you the understanding that where a person works is merely where a person works. I have always enjoyed the environment and the people at Hot Topic and don't believe that my employment there counteracts anything that I believe in or stand for.
-Punk Rock-
I have the personal belief that the store Hot Topic has really nothing to do with Punk Rock in the slightest. My working there really doesn't conflict with any punk rock ideas. You might bring up the case that wearing Hot Topic clothing conflicts with ideas associated with DIY. But I have yet to purchase and wear anything punk rock "influenced" from the store. I do however appreciate the fact that you can get band tshirts from the store and don't find it any different then purchasing the shirts from a show or off the bands website.
-Anti-Capitalism-
As far as working for a major corporation, why haven't I heard this from anyone when working in the factory. It's because people aren't aware of how big the companies are that own the factories, I'm sure that the factory I work for makes probably 100 times more money then Hot Topic does. Pretty much to sum up this section i'm going to take quotes from an Aus Rotten interview.

Corey: You live in corporate America and I don't care who you are, if you live in America you live in corporate America. Eric: Unfortunately we have jobs and we pay taxes, we are hoping that we can work towards the day that we don't have to do that anymore. But right now at the present time that's an unfortunate thing.

Corey: It's just like how did we get here? We flew on a jet. I do what I can but it's like, we all put gas in our cars we're all supporting the oil industry. I have to do it, I work, I drive a delivery van I have to put gas in my vehicle. Yeah I'm just as guilty but I do what I can.

Basically what that's saying is, no matter what you do, in some way you are supporting capitalism, because we live in a society that is based solely on it. I could work in an independently owned strawberry stand and I would be equally as guilty. There's no getting around it. In an interview with S.T.U.N. one of the members said "You can't change the system unless you are a part of the system."

So in conclusion, i'm going to do whatever the fuck I feel like and fuck you if you don't like it. Don't tell me i'm not punk rock. fuckers.

Corey (Aus Rotten): Too much of anything is not good for you. I like to drink as much as the next guy but there's a point of taking it too far. Obviously you see a lot of kids running around with Conflict and whatever, any kind of anarchist band painted on their jacket. The thing is, they are the ones yelling smash the state but what are you going to do, smash it with a beer bottle? Some of these peoples ideas of anarchy is toppling over a dumpster or something. A lot of these people are younger and stuff and they'll learn. I'm only 24 but I can't drink as much as I used to when I was 18. Also you have a lot more responsibilites too so you can't be blowing all your money on beer and shit unless your parents are paying your way.

ok so we just had band practice and holy fuck we are so good, we just need to keep up a practicing regime and then we'll be good to go. i need to start writing some new songs and keep drinking beer because beer is great. i have a hot topic interview on wednesday and i didnt go to work today oops.

Im sick as fuck right now and didn't go to work because i'm fuckin sick. And I was going to go to the store and get medicine, but even though i have hella money in the bank, it says my available balance is $0.00 so now I can't buy medicine and i'm going to fuckin die.
